Ambition Institute to continue as a lead provider for the Early Career Training programme from September 2025

Jan. 13, 2025

Ambition Institute has been named as a lead provider for the early career training (ECT) programme, under the new initial teacher training and early career framework (ITTECF), with delivery starting from September 2025.

Ambition has been a lead provider of the ECT programme since 2019 and in that time has reached over 21,000 ECTs and 18,000 mentors.

Building on the strengths of the programme to date, and drawing on the latest evidence, the new programme will include updated content on key challenges for the education sector:  supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), high quality oral language, early cognitive development and children's social and emotional learning.

Responding to feedback from teachers, leaders and providers, the programme will incorporate more support for early career teachers working in specialist settings, as well as more detail across a range of subjects and educational contexts.  All of this will help early career teachers feel even more confident in meeting the diverse needs of all pupils, in a wide range of settings.

Our CEO, Hilary Spencer, said: “Working with our partners to support early career teachers up and down the country is a privilege, and we are delighted to be able to continue delivering high quality professional development through this new framework.

The new framework builds on the strengths of the existing programme and responds to feedback from the sector – and offers greater flexibility to respond to the differing needs of individuals and contexts.

Investing in early career teachers is vital for creating a more equitable education system. We want every pupil to be taught by an expert teacher in a school led by expert leaders, and professional development is a crucial way of providing every child with the best start in life, no matter what their background.”
