Sector-led 'Inclusion in Practice' SEND initiative launched

March 17, 2025

Ambition Institute has helped launch a new initiative – Inclusion in Practice – with the aim of enhancing mainstream education for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This project invites teachers, school leaders and educators to share their successful examples of inclusion.

It is a sector-led initiative which will run alongside the work of the Expert Advisory Group for Inclusion, an independent advisory group providing expert advice to government on how to improve mainstream education for children and young people with SEND. The work is supported by Ambition Institute, the Confederation of School Trusts and a range of leaders across the education sector.

Hilary Spencer, our CEO, said: All children deserve the best possible education, and we know that teachers and school leaders up and down the country work hard to achieve that. We want to draw on the high quality practice that already exists, and help build system-wide capacity to implement effective and evidence-based strategies for children with SEND.

“We are very pleased to be working with partners across the education sector to launch this work, and we hope it will become a useful resource for schools.”

The Inclusion in Practice website is now open for submissions until midnight 1 May 2025. Educators are encouraged to share their ideas and experiences – by contributing their stories, they will help shape a national resource that supports every child in every school to succeed.
